Cavalier King Charles Spaniels/Fatty lump
Expert: Liz Gregory - 1/23/2009
QuestionQUESTION: My beautiful cavalier king charles, Tilly, had a large lump about the size of a tangerine, on her back. It is half way down her spine and doesn't bother her when you touch it. I have only noticed it over the last couple of days. Do you have any ideas? Thanks
ANSWER: Hello Helen,
I would love to be able to help you on this but I am afraid it is outside of my expertise. I would make an appointment for tomorrow at the vet. I don't know what it is or really what it could be, but I don't like it being by her spine. It doesn't sound like anything common in Cavaliers as I don't know them to be particularly prone to tumors as in some other breeds.
I truly hope that your Tilly gets better and that it is an easy fix.
Good luck!
Sincerely,
Liz Gregory
Hi Helen,
I was wondering if everything went well with Tilly. Let me know if you get a chance.

QUESTION: Hi Liz
Tilly went to the vet the day after I asked the question. As she is slightly overweight the vet said I need to get her to loose a few pounds before he could decide what it was as there was a smaller lump under the large lump and the large lump was just fat surrounding the small lump! I was to bring her in if the lump got any bigger. Tilly is loosing weight now and I am taking her back to the vet in 2 weeks.
Thanks for your answer and your concern.
Helen
AnswerHi Helen,
How did everything go with Tilly? You know, most cavaliers love vegetables so you can give them little pieces of carrot or green peppers, or tomato's. Whenever I start chopping vegetables, my cavaliers come running! I'm letting you know this as an alternative to other snacks to get weight off of her, if you still need to do so. I am hoping everything has gone well!
