Cavalier King Charles Spaniels/Neutering & Others

QuestionHi I have a few questions!
I have a 14 month old gorgeous CKCS dog and we are thinking of getting another. What are the potential issues with regards to introducing a new dog, and will he settle ok as he is spoiled with love and affection!
We haven't had our dog neutered, hence my next question - should I? I have heard it will make his coat go wooly so I am reluctant to. Though I may have no choice if we get a bitch instead of another dog. Also he did for a period start cocking his leg in the house, will neutering stop this?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Michelle
AnswerHi Michelle,
I would neuter him. I don't think that neutering will do anything to his coat that wouldn't normally happen. Their coats often change over time with or without neutering. Some are just prone to a woollier coat. All three of my dogs have different types of coats.
I am sure that he will be fine with another cavalier, male or female, but I would get him neutered. I do like that you waited and gave him time to mature but I always spay/neuter anyone that I am not breeding, it really makes life easier!
Also it should keep him from marking (lifting his leg) in the house, although you may have that start up a bit when you get your next baby, they are dogs and that is a way of letting the new dog know that this is their domain.
When you bring the new one in, make sure the introduction goes well. Make sure you treat your older one like he is just as special. You seem sensible and I am sure things will go well.
Let me know if you need any more info!
Thanks,
Liz
