Cayman Islands/Dental lab services
Expert: Robert Clark - 11/20/2008
QuestionI am a distributor of dental crowns and I live in the U.S. I have a brother and sister--in-law living on the Grand Cayman Islands. They are looking for a way to get some extra income. Since the lab is a foreign laboratory that makes these crowns would the government allow me to advertise our dental products on the island and have them ship the items to my brother and sister-in-law. They would be working for me and the payments from the Dentists would be set up for international transfers via credit card. If the government does allow for foreign business exchanges than who would I contact to set up these services?
Sincerely,

This is much more complicated that I though!
In most areas of business, there wouldn't be a problem with advertising your services, even if they are offered "off-island". However, when it some to do with health, that is a different matter - see
http://www.ecayonline.com/cayman-islands-dental-care.asp for a brief overview of dentistry in Cayman.
I believe that even if your brother and sister-in-law are working for you, because they are working in Cayman, you would have to set up a local company. You would then have to apply for work permits, etc (unless they have status). Once you get into this, it starts to get complicated not only on the investment you would have to put in, but all the necessary licences, etc. It may be worth talking to the Cayman Islands Investment Bureau (
http://www.investcayman.gov.ky/) to see what advice and guidance they can give. You may also be able to get some help from the Chamber of Commerce (

An easier option may be to offer your service to one of the existing dental practices - see my list of online directories at

Note that there is a Medical & Dental Council that oversees this are - see

Medical and Dental Council

e-mail: HPBUSERS@gov.ky
Hope this help and good luck!
