Cayman Islands/Office jobs in Cayman
Expert: Drew Wilmoth - 11/8/2008
QuestionHi,
I'm from Canada. I would like to know if there is a lot of office jobs opportunities in Cayman Islands. I have no financial or accounting experience, I have a bachelor in communication and 8 years experience in government public service (such as customs & import-export compliance and regulations, entry data, reports writing, etc.), I have office experience but not as a secretary nor assistant. I think my skills would be useful but I'm not sure about opportunities in Cayman islands. I'm also French-English bilingual. I heard about temporary contracts.
Do you think my background would be interesting for any field, any employers?
Thank you a lot for your help!
AnswerThe financial services sector is a major player in the Cayman economy driving demand for a variety of jobs. Hedge Funds, Accountancy firms, Legal Services, Banking, Captive Insurance, and more all require office support. Such business afford opportunities to put your experience and education to use.
The Cayman Islands does administer its own Customs service which is a primary income producing agency for the government. Employment in this sector is limited to Caymanians.
Other sectors of the Cayman Islands government may offer job opportunities, though current many departments are deferring hiring due to expected budgetary shortfalls. Your public service experience may move you toward the head of the list once hiring resumes. Look out for positions with Government Information Services particularly.
Your bilingual skills may be of particular benefit to a company doing business with French-speaking clients.
Finally, there are a few recruitment firms which are structured similar to Temporary Employment Agencies in other parts of the world.
