Question
My wife and I are thinking of buying a plot of land in Grand Cayman and we would like to build a bamboo house that is constructed in Vietnam.Do you know if there will be import duty to pay on this construction?
Sharn

Answer
Import duty is owed on construction materials.  The normal rate of duty is about 20%.

I would advise you to clear your plans with the Planning Department prior to purchase and shipping of materials. You should pay particular attention as to whether your proposed construction meets the hurricane guidelines of the building code.
