Question
Dear Drew,   I keep getting conflicting information about the FERRY at Rum Point....   Is it running or not?  Is the the cafe open or not?   Thanks for all of your help..sure would like to buy you a drink when we get there.  :o)   Susie

Answer
The Rum Point ferry has been out of routine passenger service since the passage of Hurricane Ivan in September of 2004.

The boat was not damaged and is still occasionally used for charter groups, so it may be seen from time to time at Rum Point. Particularly, Disney Cruise Lines offers a shore excursion to their passengers which includes a ferry ride to Rum Point. That operates on alternate Tuesdays for a single round trip and is not open for ticket sales to the general public.

The Wreck Bar is open for lunch seven days a week. They specialize in serving cool blender drinks such as margaritas, piņa coladas, and the local favourite mudslide. The bar serves grilled dishes featuring typical beach foods. Try the jerk pork sandwich or the grilled chicken boboli.

The Rum Point Restaurant has not reopened since Hurricane Ivan. Several months ago the owners of the property announced their intentions to reopen the restaurant (and possibly reinstate ferry service too) but nothing has come of it do far. Time will tell - island time, that is.

For those staying at condos in the Cayman Kai area, the nearest restaurant for breakfast or dinner is Over the Edge in Old Man Bay, about 6 miles from Rum Point. They offer dining on a deck overlooking the sea. Other restaurants are further afield.
