Question
Hi,

I was looking for some advice....

My partner is a Qualified accountant and will have no problem in getting a job or even a transfer with her current company to Grand Cayman.

However, the sticking point comes as I am not qualified to Degree standard however do have 3 years experience in Recruitment.

I am currently applying for positions, but if all fail, would it be possible for me to go with her and get a job whilst out there? There are a number of Temp positions...

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Matt

Answer
The answer to your question depends upon your marital status.

If you are married to her, you could be listed as a dependent on her work permit. That would give you permission to live in Cayman and you could seek employment whilst here. If offered a position you could remain in Cayman whilst your work permit application is being processed.

You cannot be listed as a dependent on her work visa if you are not a married couple. If you are not married to her then you could still enter on a visitor's visa. That would normally require you to leave the islands every 30 days unless you receive an extension to your tourist visa. You could seek work whilst here but would need to leave the islands while any work permit application is being processed.

In order to be listed on her work permit as a dependent, her wages would have to be sufficient to support you without you working. That is normally a minimum of CI$3000 to CI$3500 per month to support one dependent. Higher wages are required for additional dependents.
