Cayman Islands/Work Permit and dependent

Question
QUESTION: Can my husband who is my dependent work in the cayman island

ANSWER: Tanisha
Yes - as long as he applies in the same way as any other person.  As a dependent he has no right to work, but would have to apply for a job, and his employer would then have to apply for a work permit for him.  I think it is possible for your permits to be linked, so that if yours expires, you could stay as his dependent.  I also think that the permit boards would have to be convinced that both of you could live on Cayman with only one of your salaries.

Hope this helps - check out some of th eresources in my FAQ at http://www.gotocayman.com

QUESTION: Hi Robert,

Thanks for the answer to the first question.  I would also like to know if it would be difficult for him to switch from a dependent status to a work permit status?  He is a machinist who specializes in Motor vehicle engine and has ten years of practical experience.

Answer
No, as long as he meets all the standard requirements (health, police record, etc.).

Check some of the online resources to help his job hunt - eg online version of Cayman Net News, online classified adverts, etc.  Most jobs are advertised in the Friday newspapers, but some also appear on other days.

Good luck!

Robert
