Questionhello drew
I need some help, I have applied to work as a teacher with the cayman government and my concern, was whether I would get a temporary housing when I arrived and later move on my own or do I have to pay everything from the time i arrive?

AnswerThere are provisions in the government's personnel regulations which allow for the possibility of paying for temporary housing for staff recruited from overseas. However, it does not appear that providing temporary housing is an absolute requirement. Some jobs are eligible for such added benefits while other jobs are not.
I have know two persons who took up government jobs within the past year after an overseas recruitment process. In each case they were offered short term accommodations (one or two weeks) in a hotel following their arrival.
Further, government may (again, it is not necessarily required to) pay for moving expenses. In my experience this has been by reimbursing the newly arrived employee for expenses they have already incurred such as airfare and shipping of household goods.
You should inquire with your contact within the department which is recruiting you as to whether moving and temporary housing expenses are covered. This is an appropriate line of questioning for the later stages of a job interview.
