Cayman Islands/Where to live

Question
My husband and I are moving to Grand Cayman in January 2010. I work in the accounting industry and my office is in Georgetown. Where would be a good place on the island for us to rent a  1 or 2 bedroom condo or townhome? We are willing to spend up to $2,000CI and we have a small dog. We want to live in a fairly safe location that is high and dry (if that is even possible). Thank you for your time.

I think your main problem will be your dog - many landlords won't accept pets, so this may limit your choice.

Cayman is generally considered a safe destination, but there are some parts of West Bay and George Town that you should probably avoid.  I would suggest that you look in the South George Town, South Sound area.  Obviously, the nearer to GT the higher the rents, but then the further out you are, then the longer it will take you to commute - the queues to get into/out of town can be amazing for such a small place!

High and dry - only likely if you are in a condo block and you are above the second floor or your property has very high foundations!  A lot of the damage from hurricanes is caused by the storm surges causing flooding.  Many of the vehicles damaged in Hurricane Ivan were because of the flooding - very few places for vehicles to be stored safely. Remember that the highest point on Cayman (apart from Mount Trashmoor) is only about 26 feet above sea level.

Check the resources in my website for links to real estate brokers and classified adverts that may help you - most classified adverts appear in the Friday editions of the newspapers.  You can read the whole of Cayman Net News online at http://www.caymannetnews.com

Hope this helps and good luck!
