Expert: Drew Wilmoth - 9/1/2009
QuestionHi,
My boyfriend and I are very interested in moving to the cayman islands.
I have a marketing diploma and he is a certified draftsmen in engineering.
I was wondering what the best way about going to find a job is, job agencies or contacting companies?
Any feedback would be appreciated!
Thanks!!
AnswerEmployment agencies in Cayman focus primarily on professional jobs in the financial services sector. While they may be able to assist with other positions I would not suggest leaving a job search solely to a placement agency. You may choose to pursue a direct approach and also provide your CV to an agency,
Marketing experience could be useful across a wide array of tourism or media related businesses. You may wish to contact hotels, radio stations, newspapers, or magazine publishers directly.
Draftsman skills will be far more focused in the construction and architecture relate firms. A direct approach to architecture firms may be best.
All jobs open to expatriates must be advertised locally. Most often this is in the Friday edition of the Caymanian Compass or the Cayman New News. The Compass has a much larger share of the classified jobs advertisements. The advertising requirement allows an employer to show that a genuine effort has been made to recruit locally for the position before making an offer to an expatriate.
