Cayman Islands/work permit

Question
hey, i had 6 months work permit in place but I ended up not going to cayman islands (family problems) and my permit was cancelled.  Few weeks after it was cancelled i went to grand cayman for 2 weeks holidays...I loved it and decided to give it another go and look for a job. I found a job however my permit has been refused this time. As an explanation they said that they do not believe that this is genuine temporary aplication and that my employer should have applied work 1 year permit. He said to appeal the decison would take ages, but instead he is gonna apply one more time with a new cover letter. Waht are my chances of getting it? thanks a mill!

Sorry for the delay in replying - I was trying to seek advice from a contact who works in HR in Cayman.  Unfortunately they appear to be on holiday at the moment, so I can't really add much.

It isn't clear if the rejection was because of your previous cancellation or not.  If you think it was a factor, then I would suggest that if you have any documentary evidence of what the family problems were that caused you cancelling your previous job, that you submit this so that they can see it was a genuine reason and not just somebody who was mucking them around.

However, if it is just a local issue between Government not believing your employer, then there isn't much that can be done.  It would really be up to the employer to justify why he needs a temporary permit over the permanent. I believe that it really has to be exceptional circumstances for a temporary permit to be issued.  A temp generally has to be justified with a need for immediate help as a result of something that was not expected.

Hope this helps!
