Question I'm a Canadian who worked in Cayman for a couple years However the formal employer wanted to hire me directly, so they submitted my permit application to immigration to take over the permit from the employment agency. This was prior to me leaving the islands (for maternity leave). When I came back to the island I was asked about my job status which I truthfully said my permit was being processed (at this time I still had a valid permit). I had no idea that I was supposed to get a stamp in my passport for the time between one permit to the next. I went to immigration to find out the status of my application and all hell broke lose and I was told I had to leave. After relaying all of this to another immigration official she gave me and child a few extensions until I could find out the status of my permit application. Once I was told that it was not granted I asked for an extension and bought a ticket and went back home. That was 6 years ago. I am not seeking employment there, nor to live but my family and I want to visit for just a week while I'm visiting another island. I'm wondering what immigration will say/do. The 'overstay' was totally unintentional. I wasn't charged or arrested or anything I just left after my permit was turned down. A few months later my husband left permit and island behind and joined me in Canada. He is now a citizen. What if any issues would face trying to visit?
With thanks

I think that your situation is quite complicated, so I'm not sure I can give you a definite answer. However, I am asking one of my contacts (who works in HR and understands the immigration and work permit process better) what they think about your situation and what advice they can give.

Robert
OK, my contact thinks that you should contact immigration by letter or e-mail or phone to explain your situation before you travel.
As I have relatives on the island that I visit
regularly, I have good knowledge of the island from
both a tourist and a residents point of view.
