Cayman Islands/Residency in Grand Cayman

Question
Hello Robert,

My husband and I are seeking to permanently relocate to Grand Cayman with our 2 sons from Canada. We are Canadian citizens but have naturalization from the UK and Jamaica. We have friends and relatives on Grand Cayman who are Caymanians (cousin) and the island would fit better with our lifestyle and family ties.

Under the new Stimulus Plan announced in early December 2010 we would be seeking to acquire the renewable 25 year residency for high net worth foreigners who can invest $500K in developed real estate without the right to work. As the details of the plan have not been publicly released, I wanted to know if there is any additional information that you can provide about temporary landed residency (if such a thing exists) so we can apply for schooling for our boys. We do not qualify for the "independent means" requirements but will be able to have a comfortable living through sources outside of island.

If you can provide any additional information that may aid in our relocation plans that would help to point us in the right direction. I have thoroughly explored the Cayman immigration website and have come up empty.

Kind regards,
Marie

I've asked one of my contacts who works in HR and understands the immigration processes, and she hasn't been able to add anythign to this.  She isn't aware of any of the details about the Stimulus Package, so I guess that the politicians haven't yet finalised how it will work.  My contact also doesn't think that under current rules in place you would get a permit to allow your kids to go to local schools.
I guess that the best course of action would be to contact the Immigration Department directly and ask them what they can advise about your situation.

Good luck!
Robert
