Question
hi,

we are planning a cruise in april. we will be stopping over in george town, cayman island for one day. can you please recommend what will be best go around in the limited time. for example, should I rent a taxi and go around town? what are some of the things I should not miss. thank you

regards,
vicky

Answer
Hi Vicky,

Do you know how many other ships will be visiting Grand Cayman on the same day? It is a small island so attractions get booked up and very busy on cruise days.

For me the ultimate trip when in Grand Cayman is a helicopter trip with Cayman Island Helicopters http://www.caymanislandshelicopters.com/ The pilot is excellent and has a great sense of humour. You will love the view from his 'office'. They do a short trip especially for visitors on a cruise. Space is very limited so if you fancy this book as early as you can.

If flying isn't for you, then you could walk around George Town. Its not very big so you don't need a taxi. There is a restaurant opposite the docks, Breezes by the Bay http://www.breezesbythebay.com/ which is a good place to sit and to watch the world go by. If you collect Hard Rock memorabilia, then there is one near the dock as well. The Cayman Islands National Museum is also in George Town. http://www.museum.ky/Content/16.htm

To learn about the history of the Islands you should pay a visit to Pedro St James, which is the oldest build on Grand Cayman symbolise the birth of democracy in Cayman. You will need a taxi to reach this http://www.pedrostjames.ky/ .

Of course there is also Stingray City where you can interact with stingrays. There are two trips, the water at Stingray City is around 20 feet deep, so is for strong or confident swimmers, in my opinion the best way to see the stingrays is at the Sandbar, where the water is only waist deep. http://www.mobydicktours.com/

I hope that this helps.
