Cayman Islands/Employment in Human Services
Expert: Robert Clark - 4/3/2011
QuestionHi Robert,
My husband and I are currently working towards a move from our home in Australia to Cayman Islands, hopefully by the end of the year.
My husband is a Business Banking Manager in a major bank and has already begun cold calling banks and sending out his CV however, I am unsure where to begin.
I have a number of years experience in child protection with a Diploma in Community Services (Child Protection) and Bachelors degree in Human Services (Child and Family Services)
I have kept my eyes on gov jobs and searching for non gov agencies but not having much success.
Could you please give me some ideas as to who I should be contacting, or where to look for employment opportunities in this field? Is this a difficult field to gain employment?
Also, would you have any other advice/ tips for my husband's job search?
many thanks
Anna

Jobs are often advertised in the banking sector, but not sure if they are at the level your husband is looking. You are probably aware that before an ex-pat can be offered the position, the employer has to ensure that there are no Caymanians that can fill the role. This is usually achieved by advertising in the local press, so it may be worth checking out some of the (subscription) jobsites that post these adverts online. Check out the section under Employment Agencies on my website at
http://www.gotocayman.com It may also be worth registering with some of the on-island agencies as well.
For your area, I have done a quick search and come up with these links that may give you onward pointers:

Unfortunately, as you would probably working for government, the job situation isn't good. With effect from the 27th October 2008, the Head of the Civil Service, under instruction from Cabinet, has declared a moratorium on recruitment across the Civil Service. However hiring will not inhibit the appointment of necessary and essential personnel such as policemen, doctors, nurses and other specialised positions.
Good luck!
