Cayman Islands/Inquirys on moving to Georgetown, Grand Cayman

Question
Hello John,

I am just wondering if you would be willing to chat with me via this site, or FB about moving to the Cayman Islands. I see in your profile that you have lived there, but also study in Canada. I actually used to live in the Okanagan Valley, it's beautiful out there!

I have came across some very useful information concerning my move to the Cayman Islands, however I do have a few more questions, and it would be awesome to talk to someone who has actually lived there. I am pretty set on moving to Georgetown, preferably right in town, as I will not be buying a car while I am there.

I am wanting to move for about 6mnths-1yr, and looking to work in the service industry. I do have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, and would love to find a job within the field of social work, however I have read some information stating that it is difficult to find that type of employment, and usually those coming to the Cayman Islands are coming on work permits. It states on a few websites that within the service industry, the average hourly income is about 4.50 per hour. Is it possible to live comfortably on this income? I feel like it would be very difficult to pay 700+-1300 per month for an apartment on this type of income. If you have any information you would like to share, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you and take care:)

Hi Courtney - thanks for reaching out. I'd be happy to help you more where I can. We can use this site and you can mark your questions private if you don't want others to have visibility or we could email but you'd have to mark it private so our email addresses are kept private.  Thanks.
