QuestionHi There. I'm trying to find info on exit requirements in the Cayman islands while on a work permit. I'm pretty much coming there end of January and I'm wondering about leaving before my 6 month permit is up (for example if i don't like my job or some sort of emeregency, and just want to come back home). Do i need any documentation to Leave Grand Cayman. Your response will be appreciated. Thanx.
AnswerA work permit is a specific class of visa which is noted as a stamp in your passport. As always, you are free to enter and leave the Cayman Islands as you wish, and having a work permit does not change this.
Even with a temporary work permit (6 months or less), you may be required to hold a return ticket for your departure from Cayman. Once you have a full year work permit, you are not required to maintain the onward ticket.
If you enjoy your work in Cayman, you and your employer may choose to apply for a one year work permit before the end of the term of your temporary permit. You may then continue working after the expiration of the temporary permit while the application for the one year permit is being considered. The same situation applies at the renewal of a one year permit. It may take several months while your application is considered, and you are effectively between permits at that time.
If you choose to leave the Cayman Islands while you are between permits, you need to visit the immigration office to receive a "reentry stamp" prior to your departure. This certifies that you are eligible to reenter the Cayman Islands without holding a return ticket.
