Question
I am hoping to visit Grand Cayman in the summer and am interested in boating and diving.  Can you boat and snorkle in the North Sound with your own boat or is it not recommended, are there dive or snorkel sites there or is it just better to rent a house on the south side?

My main question is if it is better to rent a house on the north side or south side.

Apart from the inside of the reef , Coral Gardens and Stingray City, there aren't many recognised snorkeling spots in the North Sound.

There are a few snorkel sites along South Sound and on the North Side, but most are along Seven Mile Beach or around George Town Harbour.

The North Side is a lot quieter; you will definitely need a car as you will be further away from all of the shops/restaurants/ etc.  There are relatively few houses to rent on teh South Side of the island.

Check my website for information on snorkeling (under the trip reports) and links to accommodation.
