Question
My family is traveling to the Cayman's from the US. Are trip is scheduled from Aug.4 - Aug.12. We are trying to decide if we should cancel the trip and plan for another date due to tropical storm chris and the chance for high amounts of rain. What do you think the weather will be like and what do you suggest we do? Your response would be very helpful!

Thanks,

Ryan

Answer
Today's reports about TS Chris indicate that the system is degrading.  Forecast track was holding norht of Cuba, so comparatively little influence would be expected on the sea state in Cayman.

In a more general sense, typical summertime weather in Cayman includes a 20% chance of showers essentially every day.  This is to be expected in the tropics, and usually passes quickly with brief, though often heavy, rains.

The eastern ends (windward side) of the islands tend to receive less rain than the western ends (leeward side).  Cayman Brac and Little cayman receive less rain than Grand Cayman.

As anywhere, long range weather forecasting is subject to large errors.
