Cayman Islands/house sitting
Expert: Drew Wilmoth - 10/1/2007
QuestionWe are a family of 5 travelling to the island(from canada, lotta $$$$$$) in march for a wedding. WE need to find cheaper accomodations and would like some info on house sitting . Where do we start for info?? any help would be great. Thanks!
AnswerMarch is still high season for tourism in Grand Cayman. Depending upon the time of month your visit may actually coincide with the rush of Spring Break in which demand is even higher.
While house sitting opportunities are occasionally available, it generally requires a personal relationship with the homeowner. Finding a relatively short term house sitting opportunity in the peak of high season is not realistic.
You can attempt to find such an arrangement by publishing a classified ad in either the Cayman Compass or Cayman Net News. State in brief the arrangement you are seeking and dates of availability. The Friday editions of the paper get the most circulation.
A more realistic option is to start looking for a rental condo or vacation house now. This would allow you the kitchen space to prepare meals, which can really save you money. There are many units along Seven Mile Beach as well as in the Cayman Kai area of North Side near Rum Point.
Also, look for available timeshare units which are up for rent or sale on eBay. Sometimes these are available at a bargain rate and the dates may be flexible.
Good luck.
