Cayman Islands/teaching

Question
Hi Robert:

My husband (a chartered accountant) and I are looking at relocating to Cayman, and I hope to get a job teaching, as I will be finishing my certification here in Winnipeg, Canada, this April. I have looked up various schools' websites, but should I apply to the schools themselves or to a school board (as it is in Canada)? Also, what salary ranges should I expect as a teacher? I checked your FAQ, but either I missed this info, or it's a little obscure.

Thanks for any assistance you can offer me.

I would suggest that you look at the resources in my FAQ and especially Job In The Sun.  Under employment law in Cayman, before a job can be offered to an expat, it has to be advertised and prooven that there is no Caymanian that can fill the post.  As Job In The Sun post all adverts so that their members can see them, you would be able to see the adverts (and apply in response) through their website.

You should also be aware that the Government schools tend to follow the UK education system, and the private schools follow either the US or UK systems. Most Governemtn schools ask for five years experience.

Sorry, I'm not up to date with salary ranges, so can't provide that information. Remeber though that salaries are tax free.

Regards

Robert
