Question
Hello Mr Dhananjay,

Can you mention any pranayamas(apart for maha bandha) for maintaining bramhacharya.
Sir, maintaing bramhacharya for 12 years is exceedingly difficult. what is the impact of brahacharya on the astral body if there is any?. I have read form a swamiji that until the age of 7, there exists a psychic shield around a person because he/she is not involved in sexual indulgence and thoughts(beofr teenage). 1) Can you please inform me about few astral effects of bramhacharya practice?
Also, 2) what does one do in a situation when an urge is unbarable and uncontrollable, being a bramhachari?
My last question-  3)Do sexual vasanas and samskaras of past lives get burnt with this simple practice of bramhcharya?

Thank you.

Answer
1. The Bandha and Pranayama regime to be followed has been outlined in : http://en.allexperts.com/q/Celibacy-Abstinence-3564/2011/5/Pranayama-Yoga-Brahma

2. The 'Linga Sharira' (astral body) is an extension of the physical body in terms of energy. It exists around and outside the physical body in the form of an aura or halo of energy. It contains various Naadis (astral energy channels) which conduct energy. Brahmacharya results in increase of Ojas (divine astral power) which is a sort of electricity. The astral body is the seat of Ojas. One who has much Ojas through Brahmacharya becomes very capable and energetic. He becomes capable of performing much work without fatigue. His positive energy influences people in a powerful manner. He attracts immense cosmic energy or universal Prana. His mind becomes very potent and the faculties of his brain get pronounced.

For the negative effects of sexual relationships and effects on the astral body, read the 'past answer' at: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Celibacy-Abstinence-3564/2010/12/Celibacy-Questions.h

3. Divert the mind, remind it of the reality of the filth within the female body and its appearance at old age. Remind yourself of the weakness and debility further to losing semen and stop the thought or activity causing lust from accelerating. For more details on how to achieve this, kindly go through each and every past answer on this portal.

4. Past impressions become feeble and loose their might through Brahmacharya. However, they are not yet destroyed. The remnant impressions are then destroyed by the Yogi in the advanced stages of Samadhi (super-consciousness).

I can answer to the extent of my knowledge, questions concerning the practice of 'Brahmacharya', the results that follow and the means required.

Experience

I am into the practice of 'Brahmacharya' along with the study and practice of a life of 'Yoga' aimed at self-realization. My aim at volunteering here is to share with fellow readers, matters concerning self-realization/Brahmacharya to the extent of my knowledge. The term 'Yoga' is a derivative of the Samskruth verb 'Yuj' which means 'to join'. 'Yoga', also called 'Brahma vidyâ' thus signifies a mode of life that leads to the apparent union of the individual Jivâtma (embodied soul) with the Lord of the Universe - Brahman/The Almighty. Mere indulgence in 'Âsana' or physical postures is not Yoga. Âsana is only one limb or 'Anga' of Yoga. True Yoga consists of a lifestyle governed by the eight limbs viz. Yama, Niyama, Âsana, Prânâyâma, Pratyâhâra, Dhârana, Dhyâna and Samâdhi. Brahmacharya or spiritually based continence is one of the important components of 'Yama'. 'Brahmacharya':-"Brahmani charyathey ithi" - "One who has completely surrendered to Brahman, overcome the ego, and has realized himself to be a tool of the Almighty." Perfection in these eight limbs leads to establishment in 'Brahma Vidyâ' (knowledge of the Brahman) followed by merger with the Almighty.
