Celibacy/Abstinence/virginity

Question
How do problems develop by remaining a virgin later than the typical age?  What can be done about this?

Answer
I don't know the exact mechanism, but it involves sexuality being a skill.  It is better if one could develop that skill soon after puberty rather than waiting into the 20s.  Authors who have described typical problems of late virgin males have written about them having unrealistic expectations for sexual performance.  One such book is Undressing the American Male by Eva Margolies.

Expertise

When it comes to celibacy/abstinence, I am more likely to point out the downside of being sexually abstinent. I don't advocate abstinence as a long-term sexual lifestyle. Abstinence is a good thing when the alternative is being sexual in an indiscreet manner, but it is a bad thing when a healthy sexual lifestyle of being monogamous with a partner is available. I frequently answer questions in the masturbation and male masturbation categories on AllExperts.com. I take all questions pertaining to sexuality.
