QuestionQUESTION: HI Robert;
I have a question which i cant find the answer to . I am living in asia where we have 3 g phones. I am looking at 2 phones
the Nokia E65 and the Nokia E51
The E65 offer 3 g UMTS 2100
the E51 offers 3 g HSDPA 850/2100
outside of that they seem about the same.
Ok whats the dif? I have read that HSDPA is faster.
On this page,
http://full-speed.org/archives/2006/06/28/hsdpa_vs_umts.php
he says to go with the HSDPA
2 ..HSDPA devices should work on a UMTS network, but the reverse is not true.
4. If given a choice, pick an HSDPA device.
Thnaks for ur help
Richard
ANSWER: Hello Ricard,
I understand your concern about HSDPA vs UMTS capable devices but it really depends on your network and what services they offer you can choose the HSDPA device but if your network does not offer that speed then your device will use UMTS honestly what we need to do is research your provider and see if they have any plans to update there network to HSDPA we also need to verify what frequency they use wether 2100 850 or so on. Please give me information about your network and I can research what fit will be best for you thank you for your question.

QUESTION: WOW:
now thats what i call a quick response. I dont have a network right now so am just deceding which phone would suit my purposes
OK I live in Thialnd and they will roll out the 3 g network by the end of this year for HSDPA. I also will be spending a fair amount of time in Cambodia where they already have 3 g in Place UMTS
Since the E51 offer HSDPA which as i understand it will work with the UMTS systme it would seem thta would be the better choice for the future. Am i correct in that assumption?
as i just read this, .....What is HSDPA?
HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) is the next generation of the UMTS technology. HSDPA is an add-on solution to the 3GPP releases specifications. HSDPA employs new techniques in the protocol and channel structure to achieve theoretical data rates of up to 14.4Mbps. Another advantage of HSDPA is its backwards compatibility with UMTS.
AnswerHello Richard,
You are absolutely correct in your assumption in all honesty I would purchase a phone that is HSDPA capable because of its backards compatibility and incase you travel to the states that will also be compatible here plus if I am not mistaken he majority of Asia and Europe. HSDPA is a bit faster then UMTS but please understand that HSPDA is not available everywhere and UMTS pretty much is but you do have your hot spots for HSDPA service in major cities. As I do understand alot of places in Europe and At&t here in the United States are looking into 4g for the next coming year. In all honesty in the E51 device will work very well for you it is a beautiful device and very great reception no real flaws just a perfect item just as Nokia usually does. I hope that I have been of help to you if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you for your question.
