Hi, I'm currently a verizon customer but really want an iPhone. I know this means I'll have to switch providers but my question is...do I have to use AT&T and do I have to pay for a data plan?

If you want an iphone you will be subject to using the at&t cell phone service as the iphone is an exclusive phone to at&t here in the United States. If you want to use the iphone you must use a data package with the phone ranging in the price range of 20-40 dollars additional on top of your voice package per month. There are ways around that like getting an unlocked iphone where you dont have to purchase the data package however if you really want an unlocked iphone the cost is through the roof. The apple Iphone is an exclusive product of at&t for a 5 year contract they have with the company that can at any time be renewed and extended.
