I am very familiar with the individual devices and their specifications. I can also answer questions regarding BlackBerrys, iPhones and other PDAs, both Palm-based and Windows-based. Question
Hey Debin,

I have a cingular account.  However I have a 7230 blackberry T-mobile/cingular phone. I out my cingular sim card in the phone and all it will do is show my phone number.  The phone keeps saying no coverage or no service. I put my sim card in other phones and I have perfect signal.

I bought the phone off of a person on ebay and he said that the t-mobile phone would work with a cingular sim card.

So Debin what do u think the problem is?

Thanks,

Answer
Hi Chad -

The device you purchased is a tri-band device with only one US band (1900 MHz). Since I am assuming it is SIM-unlocked, it should recognize the AT&T network when you put the AT&T SIM card into it, however, because it is missing the 850MHz band, there is a good possibility that where you live, the 850 band is being used and this device will not work for you. In order to have your SIM card work on the AT&T network, you have to have a device that works on both the 1900 and 850 bands in the US. This device was designed for only the 1900 band in the US for T-Mobile. It is not a device that will work properly with AT&T (which is the same as Cingular). My advice is to return this device, if possible. It is a T-Mobile only device, very old and not worth whatever you paid for it. If you want a Blackberry to work with the AT&T network, I would suggest that you buy an AT&T branded Blackberry, i.e,, 7290, 7100, 8700, 8300, 8310, 8320, 8800, 8820, 8100, 8110, 8120, but not anything else. I hope this helps and please let me know if you need any additional information. Thanks. DebiN
