Cellular Phones/Using unlocked T- mobile cell phone in Australia

Question
Hi Denny. I purchased a T-Mobile phone from Costco in the USA and used T-Mobile prepaid cards whilst in the US. Am now back in my home country Australia and have received an unlocking code from T-Mobile. The code has worked but I still cannot use my phone with the two largest phone companies in Australia. The phone is a Samsung T219S triband model. The Telstra rep. tried changing the phone frequency to that used in Australia but phone still would not lock onto carriers signal. Can this phone be used in Australia? Cannot contact T-Mobile via their e'mail address.

Answer
Brian, the phone you have runs on 850/1800/1900 frequencies.  Depending on where you are in Austrailia, they use 900/2100.  there are a few places that use one of your frequencies.  The carriers are Telstra and Vodafone.  Since you already had someone look at the phone to try and make it work at Telstra, I will say it can't be done.  Most all phones automatically lock onto the signal that's available.  Sorry for the bad news. Hope this helps.
