Cellular Phones/Motorola W490 Ringer IDs

Question
Hi, I have just gotten a Motorola W490, preowned but everything works fine. Except when I set custom cropped ringtones (.amr format for space saving) for people in my phonebook, I still only hear the general all-calls ringtone. I have already enabled ringer IDs in Settings>Ring Styles>*style* Detail>Ringer IDs . I also tried doing what you said in an answer to someone else in http://en.allexperts.com/q/Cellular-Phones-2768/w490-ringer-id-vs.htm by setting the general calls to Silent/None. That did not work either, it still plays the general calls ringtone as opposed to the Ringer ID specifically set for that person. Is there something I'm missing or any other settings I must change for this to work? I'm getting So aggravated at this accursed thing! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
In order to use custom ringtones, the contact has to saved to your phone (not your SIM card) and the phone has to be provided from your carrier. If you bought this phone SIM unlocked and are using it with the AT&T network, for example, it won't allow you to use custom ringtones because it doesn't have AT&T's firmware on it. If it is a T-Mobile phone being used with T-Mobile, make sure that your contact is saved to the phone (not the SIM) and then you should be able to choose a custom ringtone for your callers. I hope this helps. Thanks. DebiN
