AboutDebiN Expertise I can answer questions on cellular phones, the physical device, the network, contracts, billing, ordering, porting and what to look for when purchasing cell phones. I am located in the United States. I am an expert on BlackBerrys, Treos, HTC devices and iPhones as well as cellphones and aircards. I have over 15 years of experience in both the wireless and wireline world with the carriers. I have a lot of knowledge regarding the wireless providers - their services, prices and policies, both GSM (AT&T (formerly Cingular) and T-Mobile) and CDMA (Verizon, Sprint/Nextel (iDEN)). I am very familiar with the individual devices and their specifications. I can also answer questions regarding BlackBerrys, iPhones and other PDAs, both Palm-based and Windows-based. I can troubleshoot most any problem someone is having with their cellular device or with the provider.

Question I have the media package from my old blackberry (8700) - my sim card is over 6 ys. old. I'm unable to send texts and have no idea what all the acronyms for the set up stand for. If you could please spell out how to set up as you did for this cingular fellow - that would be great. Also, do I need a new/better sim card to be able to access some of the features? Would a memory card help? - I'm also having a VERY difficult time downloading contacts in my blackberry phone to its sim card to be able to get them into the sci sim. Have tried unsuccessfully to download contacts to mac book pro. (Still trying to learn it too!) Thanks so much! Amanda
Answer If AT&T is your carrier, the settings are exactly the same. AT&T and Cingular and the new AT&T are the exact same company. If you have an old blue AT&T wireless SIM card, I don't have the Mmode settings. SIM cards have nothing to do with features, but if you currently have a BlackBerry data plan, you will be charged for every kilobyte of usage on the SciPhone because AT&T knows the difference between BlackBerry data and non-BlackBerry data. And the reason you are having a hard time getting your contacts onto your SIM card is because you can't. It's not possible to copy contacts from a BlackBerry to a SIM card and that has nothing to do with the SIM card you have. It's a limitation of BlackBerrys. They don't allow copying of contacts from the device to the SIM, only from the SIM to the device. And the SciPhone shouldn't have a SIM in it, because if it does, it won't work. Your SIM card is your identity - your phone number and plans are on this SIM card. When you change devices, you move your SIM to the new device. If you buy a new device from AT&T and it comes with a new SIM card, you call AT&T and activate that SIM card - that will move your number over to the new SIM and deactivate the old SIM. You can't use MAC book pro to do what you are trying to do either. There's only one way to get your contacts onto your new device. Put them into Outlook via the USB cable for your BlackBerry and BlackBerry Desktop Manager software (doesn't work with a MAC unless you have the conversion software) and then tether the SciPhone to copy to the SciPhone. It's unlikely that this will be smooth and if I were you, I would strongly recommend that you consider sending back the SciPhone, buying a new iPhone from AT&T, updating your contract, they will give you a new SIM and you will not have anything to worry about. It's not worth messing with the SciPhone and it's not worth worrying about keeping an old plan. You will be very glad you upgraded and especially since you own a MAC, you will LOVE the iPhone. If there is anyway for you to do this, I strongly urge you to consider it. I hope this helps. Thanks. DebiN
