Question
QUESTION: Hello,

I' planning to buy a Samsung J700 mobile phone and I want to use my PC's internet connection on it. I have tried searching the net but most of the tutorials for using PC's internet are for symbian phones only. Do you know if its possible to do it with Samsung j700?? If not then please recommend a phone in the same price range which has this capability.

ANSWER: Are you wanting to use your phone as a modem for your computer so that you can access the internet? If so, then you need to know that it's not just about the phone, it's about your wireless carrier. You have to hae service with a carrier who supports tethering a cell phone to use as a modem. There aren't too many that allow this. Sprint does for many phones. All of the other carriers allow tethering only with certain data devices (BlackBerrys, PDAs) and most charge extra for this (on top of the data plan, there is an additional fee for tethering). So, basically, it's not really what it seems. Many carriers sell aircards (also called PC cards) that allow you to tether. Those unlimited plans run between $40.00 and $60.00 a month. I hope this helps. Thanks. DebiN

QUESTION: Hello,

No, I want to access internet from mobile using computer's internet connection. Like what this tutorial is about: http://www.devilsworkshop.org/access-internet-from-mobile-using-computers-intern...

The only thing that is worrying me is that Samsung J700 doesn't have Symbian what all the tutorials on the internet are about. So basically the question is that 'Is there some way to do this using a java based mobile, especially J700??'

Thanks

Answer
You won't be able to access the internet on your cell phone using your computer's connection to the internet. The information you read about using the Symbian operating system will only work with a device that has the Symbian operating system and doesn't work with any other type of OS on a cell phone. So in answer to your question, there is no way to do what you are wanting to do with a non-Symbian OS device. I hope this helps. Thanks. DebiN
