Cellular Phones - overseas calls

Question
QUESTION: Hi, my son will be coming from England next month to attend Ole Miss university. I was wondering if you could offer me any advice on what type of contract he should get. He will probably use Skype to call home but it would be useful for him to use his mobile at times too.

ANSWER: Using his mobile phone will be expensive. If he uses his current device and phone number, calls will be charged at roaming fees. He would be better off getting a prepaid mobile phone in the US and then calls to England will only be at international dialing rates (which is a lot less expensive than international roaming). That would be my suggestion for him. I hope this helps. Thanks. DebiN

QUESTION: Thanks for that, do you recommend any particular US phone company?

Answer
For something inexpensive, you could get him service from Cricket or MetroPCS. They have inexpensive unlimited plans (unlimited text and voice and some how data). That might be your best bet for him. That way, you will know the cost each month and don't have to worry about extra charges (except for the occasional calls back to England that are charged on a per minute basis). I hope this helps. Thanks. DebiN
