I have a lot of knowledge regarding the wireless providers - their services, prices and policies, both GSM (AT&T (formerly Cingular) and T-Mobile) and CDMA (Verizon, Sprint/Nextel (iDEN)). I am very familiar with the individual devices and their specifications. I can also answer questions regarding BlackBerrys, iPhones and other PDAs, both Palm-based and Windows-based. Question My daughter will be traveling in India for a month and we want her to be able to
use her cell phone both within India and to call the US if she needs to. She has a
Samsung Alias 2 phone with a Verizon plan. Will this work?
Answer It is unlikely that device will work for her. What she needs is a WorldPhone from Verizon and international roaming enabled. The WorldPhones have both CDMA and GSM radios and allow Verizon users to use their devices at home and abroad. The discounted international roaming charge monthly is $5.99 and then each call made while abroad will be billed at a per minute rate for calls made or received in India (typically about $2.00 a minute). You can check with Verizon to verify the rates. You won't be able to use another phone and still have her same number. You need to get the phone from Verizon. I hope this helps. Thanks. DebiN
