Cellular Phones/Pantech C3B

Question
I purchased an AT&T Pantech C3c phone from a private individual and I can not get it to work.  I have a current (older) AT&T contract and apparently 2G service.  When I turn on the Pantech phone, with my SIM card, it comes up AT&T and I get reception, and a message to "Change Sim". In the lower left part of the screen it says "Unlock".  If I press the "Unlock" it asks for a password.  The AT&T store will not provide help and only suggests I upgrade my contract. Do I have a phone that is not unlocked, needs a SIM password, or just a phone that is only compatible with the AT&T 3G network?

Answer
I believe you have a password protected device that requires a 3g SIM card also. I would suggest getting the password from that private individual. They shouldn't have sold you a locked phone. AT&T can't provide the code because you didn't buy the phone from them. If the person gives you the password then upgrade your SIM to a 3g one and the phone should work. Hope this helps. Thanks.
