Cellular Phones/RAZR, motorola
Expert: DebiN - 8/2/2009
QuestionQUESTION: I have just bought a new,(00:00 time), Motorola RAZR V3m phone. Actually, two of them. I have one of them activated on Verizon in North central Wyoming. It works well and I have another for a backup.
I upgraded from a v710 Motorola on the same carrier. I bought the phones out right to avoid a contract.
Now for the question('s):
1.] I like the vibrate then ring feature. The RAZR's I have don't seem to currently have this.
Can I get this feature?
2.] I like 24hr. time. I don't see a way to change the AM/PM format
that the RAZR's have now to the 24 hr. format.
Is this do able?
I don't mind paying a one time charge to get this done if I have to but I think it should be included on the phone. I'm hard of hearing and can use the vib./ring and I'm certain these phones are used in places where 24 hr. format is standard...
Thank you for reading this. I'll bet I'm over looking an obvious
item or procedure.
Thanks again.
ANSWER: You have to have the vibrate turned on your phone in order to choose Vibrate only or Vibrate and Ring. Here are the instructions for turning it on. Once turned on, you can change the settings by pressing the Volume Up and Volume Down lever on the side of the phone with the flip closed. It will scroll through your choices for Vibrate, Vibrate & Ring, Silent, etc.

As far as the 24 hour clock goes, I don't believe this is possible only because the time actually comes from the network and it is passed from the network in 12 hour am/pm format.
There's nothing that you can pay for to make a change to any of these things. It is a limitation of the firmware on the phone that has been provided by Verizon. I hope this helps. thanks. DebiN

QUESTION: Actually, the timing comes from the GPS satellite to the timing device in the Central Office (CO) in the 24 hr. format. This is the CORRECT GMT time.
All the phones I've had since the first cell phone I've had could display it. This VERIZON RAZR cell phone don't seem to be able to..., Does anyone know why???
In regard to having my RAZR phone alert me by vibrating several times then start ringing an audible alarm,( Say the instrument is laying on a table across the room and you can't feel or hear it vibrate...), I want it to vibrate for a couple of rings, then switch to an audible alarm for the remainder of the alert cycle. The v710 I had prior to this phone has this feature as did the STARTEC I had before that.
In the answer you gave me, it appears that you told me how to set the phone to either vibrate, or ring, not both.
Does anyone know how to do this or is it even doable?
AnswerThe person answering your question is me. There aren't others who would be commenting on my answers. So, in answer to your question, I have given you the information on how to have the phone vibrate and ring. It's not just a choice or one or the other. If the phone is set for vibration, one of your options is Vibrate & Ring. However, I don't believe that alarm alerts can be both, only phone calls can be both, I'm afraid.
And regarding the time - it does not come from GPS satellite to your phone. It comes from satellite to your carrier and then your carrier passes the time to your phone via their network. You do not receive the time via GPS. Most phones don't have GPS and none of the carriers use GPS for the time to be received. It always comes via the GSM network (or CDMA with Verizon). On this particular device, a 24 hour format is not available. I hope this helps. Thanks. DebiN
