Cellular Phones/Sidekick use in AUS

Question
Hi, I'm wondering; I previously owned a Hiptop 3 powered by Danger, the Australian version of the Sidekick 3.
It has long since broken and online at ebay I found a seller selling brand new unlocked Sidekick 3's.
My query was; if I bought one, will my SIM (Telstra Next G Network SIM) work in this phone? It's the SIM I was using with my Hiptop 3.
(Calls, text messages etc.)
And also will I be able to connect to the internet as I did on my previous Hiptop 3?
(Internet Browsing, IM)
And if not is there a way I am able to configure the Sidekick so I AM able to connect to the internet as I did with my previous phone?

Thanks in advance!!!!

Answer
I am not familiar with the Hiptop 3, but if it is powered by Danger and you have a data plan that was used with the Hiptop (where it accesses the server the way that the Sidekick data plan does), then there is a possibility that your SIM will work with a Sidekick. That is, if you are able to program the WAP settings such that it can access the server. I've never talked to anyone who has done this, so I can't assure you whether or not it will work. I would hate to see you spend your money on the device and then it not work unless you are 100% positive that it will. It's my understanding that you can't program a Sidekick to work with any other carrier (for data services), but if there is anyway that you can find out if anyone you know has done this or perhaps even check with Telstra to see if they would know how to program a Sidekick, that would probably be your best bet before you spend the money. If you are not able to find out for sure, that I would recommend that you not get the Sidekick. Better safe than sorry. Let me know if you are able to get any additional information and I'm sorry that I didn't have a concrete answer for you. Thanks and good luck. DebiN
