Cellular Phones/AT&T offers data option for Blackberrys?

Question
I'm on Verizon's Blackberry data plan(unlimited) Storm 9530. I'm happy with my Storm. My question is why or how can AT&T give customers option of data service on their Blackberrys, while Verizon requires it on their Blackberrys. Something about RIM and Verizon? I thought all Blackberrys require the data service. (I don't mind paying for the data.)

Answer
AT&T does not give subscribers an option to have the BlackBerry data plan. If you buy a BlackBerry from AT&T, you are required to have a data plan, just like with Verizon. The difference between the carriers is if you put your AT&T SIM card into a BlackBerry that you got from a friend or on-line or somewhere other than directly from AT&T, your SIM card will work for voice services. If you dont' have a BlackBerry data plan, it will not work for data. Since Verizon is CDMA and the Verizon devices have to be activated by Verizon, you can't just swap to another device without Verizon's knowledge or assistance. So anyone using an AT&T SIM card with a BlackBerry without a data plan, just put their SIM into the device. RIM requires a data plan for all BlackBerry devices sold by all the carriers. I hope this helps. Thanks. DebiN
