Cellular Phones/don't know about switching providers and getting new phone

Question
Dear DebiN, Thanks so much for your service.  I'm with T-Mobile and I've had my Samsung t209 for 2 years now.  In the past few months, I'm getting more dropped calls than ever.  Is it because of T-Mobile or the phone?  My wife is able to get a 13% employee discount from Verizon Wireless, so we are considering switching--but I went onto the Verizon site and saw their phones (the free ones and $20 ones) and there are so many mixed reviews that we're totally confused as to what to trust (especially since we love our current phone).

Any ideas on which direction to go, or what my next steps ought to be?

Thank you again for your help!

Tom

Answer
If you have had your phone for 2 years and you are now getting dropped calls, it is definitely the phone, not the carrier. As a phone ages, the radio antenna can get cracked and the phone will not be able to access the network as well. I strongly recommend that if you are happy with T-Mobile that you just get a new phone from them. If you know for certain that Verizon works well where you live, then you can consider switching to Verizon. If you are uncertain about their coverage, then don't do it. Check with friends and family and if you know that people where you live have good experience with Verizon, then switch. It should never be able to the phones, it should be about the network and then about the phone. I hope this helps. Thanks. DebiN
