Cellular Phones/GSM

Question
Hello,

I like the idea for METRO about their unlimited international calling. However, you only provide CDMA network. Is METRO ever planning on opening thier doors for all consumers and expand to provide GSM as well? There are so many much better phones in the market that uses GSM and sacrificing of not using such great phone like the 'iphone' (unlocked) to use the better network would not come cross in time soon. Thank you

Answer
I highly doubt that you will see Metro operating on GSM frequencies in the near future. When all the CDMA carriers move to the fourth generation, that will be a different story. The reason that there are better phones for GSM is because 85% of the world uses GSM technology and only 15% CDMA, so manufacturers would rather build for the majority, not the minority. The iPhone is currently an AT&T exclusive in the US. After the 5 year contract with AT&T expires, who knows what deal Apple will make with other carriers and there is always a possibility that they could put a CDMA radio into the iPhone. You never know. I hope this helps. Thanks. DebiN
