Cellular Phones/which carrier?

Question
Hello DebiN,
I just purchased a TracFone on line, item description:  Trac-LG 0225 GSM (Genesis) DIR.  I haven't received it yet.  I'm wondering which carrier would be best with this cell phone when I have to activate it with a zip code.  My sister and her husband each have a TracFone with different carriers... AT&T and I believe the other is US Cellular.  I know there's advantages and disadvantages to each but hoped you could put it all into perspective for me.  Are there other carriers available for the LG TracFone?   I live in southern NH.  I don't travel very far so I wouldn't be roaming (I don't think).  Basically, my cell phone is for emergency purposes when I leave the house.  I use a landline phone at home.

Thank you in advance for your reply,
Sincerely,
Lynn

Answer
You can only use a GSM phone on a GSM network, so it is likely that Tracfone will activate your phone on the AT&T network. This device will not work on US Cellular, though I'm not really sure whether Tracfone partners with US Cellular. I believe it is Verizon or Sprint on the CDMA side. They mostly partner with AT&T and T-Mobile, but there are areas where they use CDMA carriers. It won't be your choice, it's theirs. I hope this helps. Thanks. DebiN
