Cellular Phones/Android

Question
I currently have a plan with a local Hawaii cell company
that allows me unlimited talk & text with no contract for
$50. This seems like such a better deal than any of the
bigger companies. However, they do have some limitations,
namely their choice of phones. They do offer an android
phone, but after doing some research, the one I want is the
Droid @, which Verizon has. I looked on eBay and found an
unlocked Droid 2 for about $300. So my question is, does
this actually work? Can I buy an "unlocked" phone and keep
my current plan? Or am I just asking for a headache?

Thanks!!!

Answer
You are asking for trouble, believe me. With CDMA, you just can't ever really do what you want to do with a flashed device. I strongly recommend that you get your phones from your carrier also. When you have a really cheap plan, there are often a limited choice of phones. Though you are not crazy about the phone choices, as long as you want to stay with your carrier and pay the lower price, I would suggest that you get their phones. If phone choice is number one, then switch to Verizon. Believe me, trying to get the Droid to work with your carrier will be a challenge and you won't be able to ever use picture messaging or email or access the internet regardless. I hope this helps.
