Question
how do i find out a true rating on a new phone that is coming out free i.e. consumer reports requires a membership. can i purchase a phone for a reasonable fee without rnenwing my contract  (t mobile). The only thing I truly want is a larger screen use of email and internet. no other features are really important. any advice?

Answer
You can always search the internet for information a phone, keeping in mind that you will typically find consumer's personal opinions, but may also find some other info as well. Consumer reports is a great source, but they can often be biased, so in my opinion, hearing comments from actual users is sometimes more helpful.

You can't purchase a new phone without renewing your contract from T-Mobile, unless you want to pay full price. You can buy a phone on line and pay a lesser price, but you won't get the 12 month warranty and you run the risk of getting someone else's lemon or perhaps a phone that is not certified on T-Mobile's network and then your headaches will begin.

Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about renewing a contract since whether you realize it or not, most people typically stay with their carrier for at least 2 years anyway and even if you break your contract, the most you will pay with T-Mobile is $200.00. If you got your phone for free, $200.00 is not bad to leave, especially if compare that to what you would pay on line for a phone.

So, since you need a large screen, a phone and especially because of email and internet, I strongly recommend you get the phone directly from T-Mobile and renew your contract. You will get a phone that is certified to work on their network, is fully programmed to do so and is warranteed for 12 months. They have many SmartPhones that will suit your needs for free or a very low cost. That's my honest opinion and I hope it helps.
