Cellular Phones/Go phone sim

Question
Hi,

First I am not from the US. I came here for training and it'll be for a while.  So I decided to get myself a cheap cellphone with a prepaid sim card so I can get in touch with my Boss and friends while I'm here.  I dropped by at Walmart and purchased this "go phone" with the at&t sim card.  Just now I bought a pre owned Iphone 3GS.  It was "unlocked and jailbroken" -- I did try to insert my sim from back home and it did work just fine.  But when I inserted my at&t sim card it "DIDN'T" get any signal.  Is there any way that I can get this sim card work on my Iphone?
Thanks much.

Answer
I'm surprised that the GoPhone SIM didn't work with the iPhone. It uses the same bands and I find that very odd. It should work with any SIM unlocked device. Are you able to try the SIM with any other unlocked GSM phone to see if it will work? If it doesn't work with any other phone, that it is likely setup to only work with a specific IMEI number. Though they couldn't do this previously, the carriers can now do this and it is possible that this may be the case. I'll keep my fingers crossed that perhaps it is something else. I hope this helps. Thanks. DebiN
