Cellular Phones/Longview, TX carrier coverage

Question
DebiN,

Hi. I noticed an old 2006 post of yours stating you lived in Longview, TX. I will be moving to the Longview area soon (probably Longview or Hallsville) and am curious about which carrier(s) have very good to excellent coverage there. We visited there for a job interview a few weeks ago and noticed that we totally lost service just north of Longview towards Diana I believe. I am currently an AT%26T customer but my contract has ended so I am free to change providers. My wife and I both have very old Blackberrys that have seen better days (8700c and 8300 Curve).  I have no preferences, just want a quality, modern multimedia phone. Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Answer
Hi Jeremy -

I don't live in Longview TX and what you may have read is that someone had asked me about coverage in that area. I'm on the West Coast, but not in Texas, I'm afraid. Regarding the area, AT&T does have extensive coverage in that area, so I'm not sure why you lost coverage and it could have either been the device or perhaps just a fluke. Before you change carriers, I would try again and also take a quick look on the AT&T map to see their coverage in that area. You can also certainly look into another carrier and potentially try a different technology. I would recommend trying Verizon as an alternative. Before you commit though, I would try it out to see. You can try Verizon (without porting your number) for 30 days and perhaps have it work side by side with AT&T to see what you think. That would be my best suggestion. Thanks. DebiN
