Cellular Phones/will my phone work in australia?

Question
Hi.  I have a MOTOSLVR L7c that I bought in July 2007 (yes, it's ancient) with Verizon.  I am ending my Verizon contract when I move to Melbourne, Australia next month.  I noticed there is a place for a SIM card in the phone, though I don't have one in now.  Is there any way that I can purchase a prepaid phone kit in Australia and have it work with my phone?  I think they work by purchasing a SIM card through a prepaid carrier and then adding value to your prepaid plan.  If I can avoid purchasing a new phone when I get there by using a prepaid plan with my old verizon phone, that would be wonderful!

Answer
The phone you have will NOT work in Australia. It is a CDMA phone and does not work with a SIM card. Even if there's a SIM card slot, it still will NOT work on the GSM network in Australia. A prepaid kit won't work, nothing will. Buy a phone in Australia to use there and scrap the SLVR. I know you don't want to have to buy a new phone, but unfortunately, you don't really have any choice. A CDMA phone will not work on the GSM network not anyway anyhow. I hope this helps. Thanks.
