Cellular Phones/cell phone speed-dial

Question
Novelist you've helped in the past returning for more.  My story is set in 2000, so naturally, many characters are using cell phones.  I know in recent years, there's the ability to one-touch, or speed-dial from a cell phone. (some of the marketing gurus call this "Fave 5" numbers stored)  But was that possible in 2000?   It can be analog or digital phone, doesn't matter.  This is a minor matter in my story.   thanks Debi!

Answer
Speed dial and Fave 5 are actually different (nice to hear from you again, but the way). Fave 5 (only by T-Mobile) is where you have 5 people programmed that when you call them, it's like mobile to mobile and there is no per minute charge, even if they are not on the T-Mobile network. Speed dialing is just where you have a one-key number to call someone. This has been possible since there were cell phones. There has always been speed dial. It's just like speed dial with a cordless phone at home. You program the number and assign a key to the number and then when you press the number 2, for example, it dials the number you have programmed. So if you want someone to just press a key and it will dial someone, yes, that was possible in 2000. I hope this helps. Thanks. DebiN
