Cellular Phones/Home area

Question
I am on contract with alltel in an area that was not part of the verizon merger.  I was wondering if I can ask to change to a merger area where I can upgrade to a verizon plan?

Answer
The reason that your area was not part of the Verizon merger is because the area is GSM and the only Alltel locations that were part of the merger were CDMA. If you want new service, I would recommend moving to AT&T or T-Mobile or whomever has GSM in your area. There is likely not CDMA service (or at least not Verizon) where you are. Only Alltel areas bought by Verizon can be upgraded to Verizon, not any of the others. For you, it would be just like porting your number out from your carrier, paying any early termination fees, getting a new phone, etc.
