Cellular Phones/Old Nextel Service

Question
I have Nextel service that was before Sprint came along. I have a i776 phone and was wondering what phones are compatable with my sim card? I have 1 year on my contract, but this phone sucks! I would like a motorola clutch. Do I have to buy (I'm buying from ebay) Nextel or can I buy a Sprint/Nextel?

Answer
You can buy a new phone from Sprint and they will update your SIM card. Don't base your decision on a phone by the SIM card. If your goal however is to keep your old service plan and that's why you need to retain the SIM card, then you will need to buy a phone that works with the same number of KB's that your SIM card does. I.e., if it is 64K SIM, then another phone that works with that. If your phone came into service years ago, and it has a 64K SIM, it likely won't work with a new phone that takes a SIM with more KB's. Additionally, it will not work with any Sprint CDMA or EVO phone. It will only work with one of the phones that use Nextel service. Check their web site to see what phones use both Sprint and Nextel and validate the SIM it uses and that should work and then you can buy one of those phones on eBay or used through Sprint potentially.
