Question
My ex-boyfriend and I recently got into an argument, and spent time apart. I called him one evening only to reach his voicemail that said nasty things about me, and asked me not to leave him a message. His voicemail password was his phone number, so i went into his voicemail and changed the greeting. He is now accusing me of stealing his identity, and said that he is pressing charges. Is what I've done considered a punishable crime that I need to take serious?

Answer
Veronica, I will try to answer without injecting my personal thoughts on your ex.  Here we go.  I deal with these types of issues on a daily basis.  More often it's a split and one of the people makes account changes.  In your situation, you had access to the information needed to make the changes you did, which is the same type of stuff that i deal with daily.  In order to stop it, passwords need changed or added to prevent this situation.  Your ex didn't change his password, so you DID NOT do anything wrong.  You cannot be punished by the law.  More then likely his friends heard whatever message you placed there and your ex is embarrassed, so he took it out on you by trying to scare you.  Good luck and if you need anything else, feel free to respond.

Hope this helps,
Denny
