Cellular Phones/Lightyear Wireless

Question
I am currently a Lightyear Wireless customer.  I LOVE their service and price but wish I had a better phone then those they currently offer for sale.  I'm on their Sprint network and I use a Sanjo 2700.  I would like to purchase an unlocked android phone.  I am wondering if, since I am a current customer and am in their system, is it possible to somehow input my info into an unlocked phone to be used on their system?  If so, how would I best do that...what kind of info do I need to get from my current phone to put into a new unlocked android phone?
Thank you for your help!
Tamara

Answer
With the CDMA networks, you can only use a phone that is compatible with the network and is flashed to the carrier. If the carrier of your choice does not sell the device, there won't be an exact image to flash to so you will have features that don't work. If you are using Sprint on Lightyear, then the phone has to be Sprint phone, but keep in mind that Lightyear then adds to the phone so that you can use it through them. I would strongly recommend that you consider not trying to use a different phone unless Lightyear tells you they support it otherwise, you may wind up wasting your money on a phone that won't work with their network. With CDMA phones, you can't really unlock them. They have to be flashed to the carrier, as I mentioned. GSM phones can be SIM unlocked. Hope this helps.
